Logwood
Natural Dye Study – logwood is a blanket developed through a six-month natural dyeing course at Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft under the tutelage of Jenny Dean and Jacqui Symons.
The work explores colour using the dye logwood, with tones and shades achieved through modifiers and successive exhaust baths. This core palette is supplemented with complementary hues drawn from other dyes encountered during the course, building a layered surface of subtle variation and depth.
Logwood is the heartwood of the Haematoxylon campechianum tree, native to Mexico. It was first imported to Europe in the 16th century by sea, transported in log form - hence the name ‘logwood.’
