Madder
Natural Dye Study – madder is a blanket developed through a six-month natural dyeing course at Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft under the tutelage of Jenny Dean and Jacqui Symons.
The work explores colour using the dye madder, with tones and shades achieved through modifiers and successive exhaust baths. This core palette is supplemented with complementary hues drawn from other dyes encountered during the course, building a layered surface of subtle variation and depth.
Madder dye comes from a plant native to Asia, and it is the root of the plant that is used for dyeing.
